Recycle Auto Illinois
I live in Schaumburg,
Illinois, and have a 1989 Buick that I have had an incredibly
hard time trying to recycle. I try my best to be environmentally
conscious, I recycle as much of my trash and junk as I can, and
I was very surprised by how hard it was to dispose of my car in
an environmentally sound manner.
I started with the simple need to get rid of a junk car. I
initially figured that I should donate my car to charity. The
American Lung Association, Kars for Kids, and a few other
reputable charities have auto donation programs that have free
car removal service in my area of Illinois.
However, after talking to several of the charitable donation
programs, it became very apparent that recycling and the
environment weren't a concern. Though a few of the car donation
charities run their own car removal services, most simply
contract with a local junk car or scrap metal dealers, and
receive a flat fee for each car they refer.
The end result is that they take what they can sell, and toss
the rest in a landfill. With all of the computer chips and toxic
chemicals in today's junk cars, donations aren't what I'd call
recycled.
California seems to have genuine legitimate auto recycling
companies. Unfortunately, Illinois seems to be far behind the
curve for auto recycling. If you are looking to recycle a car in
Illinois, or any Midwestern state, you'll likely have to work to
ensure that your junk car doesn't contribute to a junk
environmental policy.
