Car Charity
The term car charity wouldn't
have had any resonance with Americans just ten years ago. Today,
you can't turn on the radio without being besieged by
advertisements asking you to donate your old car. Cars for kids,
cars for the National Lung Association, cars, trucks, boats, and
RVs for needy families.
I always wondered what a poor family was going to do with a boat
or RV. I'm supposedly middle-class and I can't afford gas for my
car.
The reality is that charities and non-profits have created a
huge new source of funds for causes of varying degrees of
sincerity and honesty. For sure, there are many worthy causes
that run auto removal services. Just as importantly, however, is
how their service is actually run.
If you're looking for a so called Car Charity, there are a
series of questions you need to ask them.
1)Who will be picking up your car?
2)How will the donated car or truck be used to help the charity?
3)If it's being resold, how much of that will go the charity?
4)If it's being recycled or sold for scrap, will environmentally
sound disposal techniques be employed?
It's a bit sad that you need to be cautious when you're trying
to make a charitable donation. However, by asking the questions
above, you can ensure that you car donation is making a positive
impact on people in need, and that it doesn't negatively impact
our environment.
